Introduction

Fatal Fury 2 took the cover of issue 19, as the team got a chance to play the Japanese version of Takara’s  SNES conversion of the Neo Geo classic beat-em-up. Unfortunately the conversion didn’t quite live up to the hype as it was getting. Zy scored it 79%, with there still being an underlying half-decent game in there. Elsewhere there wasn’t much in terms of quality games reviewed, Pool game Side Pocket scored 86%, and strategy games Mega-lo-Mania scored 81%. There were also a number of releases that had made it to the UK, including several high scorers like Turtles Tournament Fighters (90%), Rock ‘N’ Roll Racing (88%) and Utopia (86%).

In the news this month they looked at forthcoming big hitter Super Metroid, covering some of the more interesting aspects of the game’s plot and of course the latest shots. There was also news of a forthcoming skateboard type peripheral for the SNES, and Zy looked at some of the latest fanzines out there. Along with Metroid, there were plenty of new games previewed including world cup tie-ins Kick Off 3 and World Cup Striker as well as American TV show tie-in Time Trax. Fantasy Quest also looked at several new games, including the NES compilation of Final Fantasy I and II and Super Drakken - a sequel to one of the very first RPGs.

They also reported back from a competition from a couple of months ago as one of the readers got a chance to visit Nintendo of Japan. They got to look over some of the games in development as well as meet Nintendo’s technical director Gumpei Yokoi and the great Shigeru Miyamoto. Another feature this month looked at all the import games adaptors on the market, with details on all 6 of the adaptors currently available, including all the pros and cons of each as well as what the future could hold as Nintendo launched newer games with more advanced copy protection.

Guides this month looked at Actraiser 2 and Legend of the Mystical Ninja 2, with hints and tips to get through both platformers. As always there was the Gamefreak questions and answer section, and Mode 7 covered the latest tips, with a special Ask Allan section covering reader questions about RPG games. The  Classic Collection in What Cart this month looked specifically at some of the great multi-tap games, such as Super Bomberman and Jimmy Connor’s Tennis.
