Introduction
Issue 11 came courtesy of Mario and Yoshi, with three related games reviewed and a couple more on their way. The first was Super Mario Collection, aka the Japanese version of Super Mario All Stars, with Matt’s mammoth (for the time) 6 page review covering all four of the games and all the new graphical tweaks. He scored it 96%, praising the fact it was four practically perfect Mario Games, so what’s not to like? They also had an interview with Miyamoto to explain some of the ins and outs of the upcoming Mario games. Yoshi’s Cookie scored 76% and Mario is Missing scored 70%.
News this issue covered Jurassic Park’s imminent appearance on the SNES as well as previewing the Second Future Entertainment show in London. There was also the news that Nintendo had shelved their SNES CD add-on, instead detailing a new 32-bit system that would be released in ‘95 or ‘96. Rik Haynes looked at Japan’s J-League and all the games that it inspired, whilst Peter Evans detailed some obscure Japanese games that we would never likely see in the UK. There was also a revealing interview about games development with Julian Eggebrecht from Factor 5, who had Super Turrican reviewed in the last issue. There was also an interview with Peter Main later in the mag, covering various aspects of the SNES and Nintendo’s Future in general.
By far the other big game in this issue was the Japanese version of Street Fighter II Turbo, which was the second game to score 96%. Dan Jevons heavily praised the gameplay, although it had changed significantly from the original, and also praised the graphical improvements on offer. Mortal Kombat paled into insignificance in comparison, although it did score a decent 81%. Battletoads in Battlemaniacs also scored 80%.
Tips this month covered Final Fight II, with a six page guide covering everything you needed to know about the game and how to beat it. Gamefreak looked at various aspects of SNES troubleshooting and questions about importing. They also covered all the moves for all the characters in Dragon Ball Z. Super Play Classic this month was UN Squadron, which was re-reviewed at 91%.
