Introduction

Cartoon third person shooter XIII adorned the cover of issue 84, as the team got their hands on a nearly finished build of the game, which looked like it was set to become a classic. There were also previews of Kirby’s Air Ride - with a North American release nearly ready, as well as movie and TV  tie-ins The Italian Job: LA Heist and Buffy the Vampire Slayer amongst others. The team also showcased their diary from a trip to the US for a “summer vacation” full of new games like F-Zero GX and 1080 Avalanche - including brief snippets from some of the core members of the teams working on new games.

In the news this month the lid was lifted on secret Capcom game Killer 7 - with the full lowdown on the mysterious game where you play as a character with 7 split personalities. There was also news about Mario Advance utilising the e-reader and the Game Boy Player for the Panasonic Q. The big question this month looked at Nintendo’s GBA to Gamecube connectivity and whether it was worth all the hype.

Another one of Capcom's gems P.N.03 was the lead review in this issue, this one a skill based 3D arcade style shoot-em-up. Unfortunately unlike many of Capcom’s gems it wasn’t quite as well received, with Joel Snape scoring at 77%, praising the stylish nature, but calling it hugely repetitive. There was however some good news in the import department, as Viewtiful Joe gained a Japanese release. Geraint scored this one an excellent 90%, calling it very distinctive and super stylish. On GBA, Advance Wars 2 scored another excellent 93% as Jes praised the tweaks made to keep the winning formula fresh. NBA street also scored a pretty decent 88% - although Martin admitted that they were a bit late with the review as the game had been released 2 months prior.

The big How To… guide this month looked at Wario Ware, with a treasure guide to all of the levels. There was the usual tips section this month, as well as the continuation of last month's I’m The Best competition, although the scores had yet to be published. The feature at the back of the mag took a humorous take on report cards for some of Nintendo’s superstars, and how they might have fared at school. There was also the latest from the Phantasy Star Online in their regular Phantasy Forum.

Alas this issue was the end of the line for editor Jes Bickham, who had been on and off with the mag for nearly 6 years, he would continue to provide some news and editorial content as he remained with the games department at Future
