Introduction

The Gamecube’s first Christmas in the UK brought with it the latest of the Mario Party games. The fourth edition wasn't received too well and only scored 68%, with Steve Jaratt concluding that the game wasn't too much of a departure from previous versions although it was missing some important elements.

In the news this month they looked at some of Nintendo's potential innovations as well as the first confirmation that Nintendo would be releasing a follow up to the Gamecube. They also asked the question if Mario Sunshine was a failure as it had already slipped from top spot in the charts. There was also plenty of news about The Wind Waker as they managed to get a playtest of the almost finished game. Metroid was also only a month away, so there was plenty more to report on that.

There were plenty of other games reviewed this issue, although not too many great ones. The highest scoring Gamecube game was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, scoring 85%. FIFA ‘03 scored 83% and Tiger Woods PGA tour 2003 got 82%. Cover game from a few months ago Star Wars: The Clone Wars disappointed, with only 72%. The GBA fared better with Street Fighter Alpha the game of the month with 91% and the top down version of Tony Hawk's 4 getting 82%.

The final third of Mario Sunshine was tipped this month as they covered all the blue coins over the course of ten fact filled pages. In the compendium at the back of the mag they spoke to N64/NGC Alumni Mark Green, who was now Nintendo Europe's Online Editor.
