Introduction

Issue 72 marked the end of Tim’s second spell in charge on the magazine, and they marked it with the first wrestling game on the cover, and of course the biggest star The Rock was there in full force. WWE Wrestlemania X8 was the game in question, with the UK review. It wasn’t worth the large furore, only scoring 70% - with the visuals and sounds getting specifically berated from new reviewer Lee Hall. Game of the month however went to the remake of Resident Evil, scoring 89%, with the visuals on this one being especially praised. There were a few other decent games such as Beach Spikers, Capcom Vs SNK 2 EO and Aggressive Inline. The GBA’s best game was the second Castlevania, Harmony of Dissonance, scoring 86%.

They took another big look at Turok Evolution this issue, with a world exclusive playtest of the game, including looking at the multiplayer game. There was also a look at Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and Starfox Adventures, with the game only a month or so away from its Japanese and US release. There was also a further look at The Legend of Zelda, with a playthrough of some of the first areas from the game. In the news they investigated whether Mario 128 was a real thing or just a tech demo, and had the first proper details about Final Fantasy on Gamecube.

Over in extended play at the back of the mag, they offered some tricky challenges for Rogue Leader, as well as Ideas factory looking at what people wanted to see in Perfect Dark, with Wil Overton’s awesome artwork once again adorning the pages. Gadgets such as flamethrowers and an exoskeleton would have made for a very different Perfect Dark Zero!  They also chatted to Matt Wilkinson from BAM, who worked on Reign of Fire, and looked at the evolution of zombies throughout Nintendo games of old.
