NGC Magazine Issue 71

Introduction

A big M adorned the cover of the September issue as Geraint got his hands on the Japanese version of Mario Sunshine, and gave it a full going over in a 12 page review. He looked at various aspects of the game in detail, such as Mario’s moves and some of the set pieces adorning the game. He scored it at 96%, praising it as the best the Gamecube had offered so far. Eternal Darkness also got a review from the USA, with Jes giving it 89% and praising the unique horror on offer. There wasn’t much to report from the UK side, with the best of the bunch being Red Card 02-03 at 78%. On Game Boy, bizarre platform football game Go Go Beckham scored 80%.

There was once again plenty of new game previews, with Timesplitters 2 being the best of the bunch. They also had the first playtest of Super Monkey Ball 2 with the release scheduled for Christmas. Resident Evil Zero was another hotly anticipated release, and they had another playtest of it, looking at various aspects of the new game. They also investigated where the summer releases had gone too, and looked at Nintendo’s plan for the western world.

Over at the back of the mag there were tips for getting the bonus gates in Super Monkey Ball, as well as looking at how to beat your friends in Super Smash Bros. They also looked at the Nintendo Family Tree, showing how various Mario related characters were related to each other. There was also a competition to win two games every month for a year from Game, which was certainly an excellent prize. Finally, in the compendium they spoke to Dr Doak of Goldeneye fame, and looked at the evolution of Kirby.
