Introduction

Issue 12 brought with it the most controversial game on the Wii - Manhunt 2, apparently the most gruesome game the team had played on any console, and was almost immediately banned from shop shelves once it reached our shores. That didn’t stop Martin scoring at 92% and praising it for the fanservice it brought to horror enthusiasts.

Elsewhere, given it was summer they looked both backwards and ahead to the Wii’s burgeoning library and their ever increasing customer base, and there were also plenty of games to be previewed, including Metroid Prime 3, Smash Bros and over 50 brand new titles. These included Tomb Raider Anniversary and Soul Calibur Legends, amongst many third party games.

Carrying on the Horror theme of the issue, the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4 was also launched this month, and it gained the same score as it’s Gamecube brother of 96%, Matthew particularly praising the controls and some of the best gameplay so far. Luckily this one wasn’t going to be banned! The latest game in the Mario Party was reviewed this issue, although it only managed 59%, which carried on the downward trend of the games. Elsewhere there were several games around the 80% mark, including Trauma Centre: Second Opinion (84%), Japanese Import Osu! Tatake! Ouendan 2 (80%) and Sim City on the DS (81%).

The feature this month looked at shorter games and whether they were really worth it. Debating the pros and cons of shorter games. There was also a Mario Party feature, looking at the best and worst of the games so far, as well as a doctor looking at how accurate Trauma Centre was compared to real-life surgery.

In download they looked at Capcom, including some utter classics they wanted to see on Virtual Console. There was also a feature on Movies that were made into extremely odd Video Games, including the likes of Wayne’s World and Home Alone. Virtual Console news looked into Rare, and whether their games would make it onto the Wii’s Library, as well as commenting on some great new potential N64 releases on the VC, including Beetle Adventure Racing, Paper Mario and F-Zero X, all stone cold classics!
