N64 Magazine Issue 59

Introduction

And so, issue 59 was the final N64 magazine, before it’s transformation into NGC next month. Again, primarily the coverage was on the Gamecube and no N64 reviews whatsoever, although with the Japanese launch only two weeks away by the date of the magazine’s release this was understandable.

The big game this issue was Galleon, a Tomb Raider like game which put you in the role of a pirate. It actually entered development hell not long afterwards and was never released. They also looked at Retro Studios to find out what was going on, as they had cancelled all the games in development  besides Metroid. They also had new information on Rogue Leader, SSX Tricky and Madden 2002, along with previews of some of the early Japanese releases.

Planet Game Boy’s main feature this month was the review of Mario Kart: Super Circuit, as they looked in-depth at the tracks and compared the game to the SNES and N64 games that had come previously. Of course they gave it five stars, rating it as one of the best games on the GBA so far, and showcasing the GBA’s capabilities. There was also a competition to win one of the first UK copies of the game. FPS Backtrack scored four stars, whilst the Japanese version of Super Street Fighter II X Revival and Spider Man scored four stars.

Unfortunately that was pretty much it for the final N64 magazine’s final issue, with only some obscure tips and tricks for Majora’s Mask as new content. The spirit lived on however as NGC was mostly just a redesign, and primarily kept the same structure.
